Barakat Afghanistan

The problem of violence against girls and women is compounded by the scarcity of opportunity afforded them. Opportunity can be denied by restricting womens’ movement, their voice and their expression. Education is a tool that allows girls and women to examine their own situation and change it. While education is a long-term investment for change; Barakat is also working with more immediate programs that protect women against violence that is happening in their here and now. Barakat's Mission is dedicated to female empowerment through education and partnerships, enabling them to become their own best advocates. In Afghanistan, we provide basic education to all children and expand opportunities for girls and women past 6th grade through college and beyond . In India, we support transformative education and people-driven advocacy to prevent and end violence against girls and women. Our vision is a world free of violence where women and men can regard each other as equals, with equal opportunities to learn and grow. In India, we continue our work through The Ahimsa Initiative supporting organizations and projects that are working to end violence against girls and women. Barakat’s work in India began in collaboration with Care & Fair in Bhadohi, Uttar Pradesh in 2000.
